Rejection. Who doesn’t fear it?

As a job seeker, you may go above and beyond to find the best position and sell yourself why you are the perfect fit, yet still be turned down.

That rejection may weigh you down or damage your confidence. You might find it hard to move forward.

To help, we’ve gathered some tips to overcome adversity and propel your job search.

Be positive

Rejection is part of the application and interview process. Keeping a positive mindset when finding the right role is essential. You may encounter some bumps along the way, but you will make it through! If you experience one rejection and change your whole mindset, you might find yourself giving up too soon.

Ask for constructive feedback

After being told you did not get the position, all you want to do is be alone and reflect on what went wrong, but that will only change your mindset from positive to negative. Before thanking the employer for their time and this opportunity, ask if they can offer constructive feedback. Asking will only benefit you in the future! You can call or email them and politely inquire. If you don’t receive any feedback, don’t take it personally. Try and find ways to improve yourself in all aspects.

Practice more and continue your job search

You have received feedback; great! Take that information and improve for your following interview. Practice in front of a mirror, with friends, or with family. Use this practice time as a break from job searching if needed. After the break, jump back into your job search with a positive mindset. You will return to the job market as a better person.

It’s important to remember that everyone has a different journey when job hunting. You may hear from friends or family how easy their experience was getting a job. But this is your journey, and you should not compare yourself to others. You may want to ask for help and seek their input, but staying persistent is the key to success.

When you follow these tips, you will be one step closer to landing your dream job!
